Separated At Birth: Lexington Institute’s Dan Goure and Saul from ‘Homeland’

Lexington Institute VP Dan Goure (L) and Saul from the Showtime hit drama series "Homeland."

Saul Berenson often is the smartest guy in the room — and the voice of reason, though with a risk-taking streak — on Showtime’s hit drama series “Homeland.” Take one look at Lexington Institute Vice President Dan Goure’s bio, and it’s clear he has been the smartest guy in many rooms in the real life drama that is Washington’s national security sector.

But the resemblance doesn’t stop there. Sure, the fictional Saul’s beard is a bit darker than Dr. Goure’s, but it’s certainly not a stretch to believe Mandy Pinkton, who plays Saul, could sneak into a defense conference and stand in for the Lexington VP undetected.

The resemblances, however, are not endless. Your correspondent has met Dr. Goure several times and can testify with certainty that his wardrobe is far superior to Saul’s. The fictional character only dons a suit when he’s headed into a high-level meeting, and even then Saul’s attire could best be described as the exact fashion point where L.L. Bean meets JCPenney. Dr. Goure is much more dapper. By a long shot.
