Intercepts Turns 1!

Defense News’ blog Intercepts turned 1 in late May.

Since its birth in May 2012, more than 645,000 people have visited the site, which started gaining popularity in October.

Intercepts’ launched concurrently with Pentagon Correspondent Marcus Weisgerber‘s trip with then-Defense Secretary Leon Panetta to the Asia-Pacific.

Since then, the site has provided readers with a mix of defense-related analysis and entertainment. Dispatches have been filed by reporters around the world and have even been cited in official DoD briefings.

Navy reporter Chris Cavas’ posts have been the most popular items on the site, accounting for seven of the top 10 items. His post with a photo of nine carriers parked in Norfolk, Va. is the top blog on the site.

Also in the top 10 are posts about satellite imagery showing Air Force F-22s near Iran, China’s new carrier-killer missile and a video of Gen. Ray Odierno arguing with Rep. Duncan Hunter.

Congressional Correspondent John Bennett has posted the most items on the site.

Managing Editor Dave Brown put this Vine together of our birthday celebration here today.

Thanks to all of our readers for your support.
