Shutdown 2013: DoD Takes Down Freedom of Information Act Website

DoD has taken down the Office of the Secretary of Defense/Joint Staff Freedom of Information Act request website due to the US government shutdown. What’s worse, they’ve blocked access to the entire website, including the reading room where documents are posted.

Go to the website and check it out for yourself. Want to file a FOIA request? Tough luck, you’ll have to wait until the shutdown is over.

It’s a puzzling move, particularly since the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force have kept their websites online.

We’ve formally asked DoD why this is the case and we’ll let you know what they say.
