US Marines and Bell-Boeing officials are quick to point out that the V-22 Osprey tiltrotor — in their opinion — could perform just about any aviation mission. But they probably didn’t foresee its use as a condiment.
Introducing the V-22 Four Pepper Swagger Sauce. Bell-Boeing was handing out bottles of the hot sauce at the Navy League Sea-Air-Space convention near Washington this week. It’s part of the company’s latest marketing push for the Osprey to take over the carrier on-board delivery (COD) mission from the Grumman C-2 Greyhound.
The C-2, a small, twin-engine cargo plane flies supplies, equipment and people between land and the carrier. Once the supplies get to the carrier, Sikorsky H-60 Seahawks shuttle the goods to other ships in the strike group.
The Navy is planning to replace the C-2 in the coming years. Northrop Grumman has pitched an upgraded version of the Greyhound and Lockheed Martin has pitched refurbished or remanufactured S-3 Viking for the COD mission.
But, Bell-Boeing believes the Osprey could do the C-2 mission, and then some, and has now taken its argument to new venue: the side of a hot sauce bottle.
One side says:
V-22 does more than COD. And Naval Aviators know if you can back it up, it’s not braggin’. V-22 is ready for the Strike Group with unmatched capability to meet any mission from Spec Ops to MEDEVAC — and everything in between.

V-22: COD one day and whatever the situation demands the next. We even locked some 50-pound brains in a room to develop a V-22 Aerial Refueling Tanker kit so you can take care of business.
Northrop Grumman’s booth at the Navy League conference did not have any Greyhound hot sauce. But the COD competition is still in its early phases, so maybe next time.
