Today in Military History: June 7, 1942; Japan Takes Attu & Kiska
On June 7, 1942, the same day as the Japanese defeat at Midway, Japanese soldiers occupy the American islands of Attu and Kiska, in the Aleutian Islands off Alaska. The US doesn’t recapture the Aleutians until one year later.
