Today in Military History: Jan. 14, 1969, explosion aboard USS Enterprise

On January 14, 1969, an explosion aboard the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) near Pearl Harbor, Hawaii kills 27 people. A rocket accidentally detonates, destroying 15 planes and injuring more than 300 people. In response to this deadly accident and two others aboard the aircraft carriers USS Forrestal (CV-59)  and USS Oriskany (CV-34), the U.S. Navy produced the safety video below “Disasters Don’t Just Happen.”
